Police are investigating suspected homophobic abuse after footage of a woman shouting ‘shame on you’ at people on a Pride march was shared online.
A video posted on Twitter shows a woman, with her face hidden by a niqab, screaming at people, including one person draped in a rainbow flag.
The Met Police said it was aware of the footage, which was reportedly taken at the Waltham Forest Pride event in Walthamstow on Saturday.
No-one has been arrested and the force said inquiries were continuing.
The Met tweeted:
Abusing someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity is a hate crime. If you have been verbally or physically abused, harassed or attacked in any way by someone because you are or they think you are LGBT+ please report these crimes to police or through a third party agency.
In the video the woman can be heard shouting:
God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Shame on you, shame on all of you. Shame on you, you despicable people. Shame on you, you shameless people.
Walthamstow’s Labour MP Stella Creasy tweeted that she was “gutted” to see “unacceptable” behaviour in the town.

“God” didn’t create anyone. She’s dressed in a niqab and hurling homophobic abuse, so it seems highly likely that she is a Muslim. Though she shouldn’t be abused over her religion or attire, they are her personal choice, yet any criticism is usually met with cries of “Islamophobia”. Being gay is not a choice; it’s the way people are, and they have the right to respect, even from those who disagree with their lifestyle. All respect for the religious point of view goes out of the window in the face of scenes like this.

This woman can certainly be abused for her religious ideology, if for no other reason. Her choice of attire alone is a passive-aggressive statement against our liberal democratic western values. She is clearly either a Shia or Sunni Muslim – both widely recognised as the most toxic and fascistic strains of that religion. This is borne out by her behaviour toward the Pride marchers. The message to such people should be a clear “Our country, our rules – get in line, or piss off back to whatever 3rd world hole you came from.”
