Bishop of Morphou Neophytos based his claim on the words of a saint

IF PROOF were needed that religion makes people really stupid, hop across to Cyprus where the Greek Orthodox bishop is spreading the lie that women who have anal sex while pregnant will have gay children.
According to this Metro report, Neophytos bases his claim on the words of Saint Porfyrios, a relatively newly declared saint who died in the 90s.
Porfyrios, above, told gay people they should remain single and pray the gay away for the rest of their lives and apparently was the first to make the connection between women having anal sex and homosexuality.
Speaking at a primary school in Akaki, Cyprus, Neophytos claimed that the enjoyment the mother experiences while having anal sex transfers to the foetus, making the child gay.
In a video translated by Metro translators, he said:
It happens during the parent’s intercourse or pregnancy. It follows an abnormal sexual act between the parents. To be more clear, anal sex. Saint Porfyrios says that when the woman likes that, a desire is born, and then the desire is passed on to the child.
The bishop was speaking during a series of “spiritual meetings of dialogue” that ran until this month. The meetings were open to all and audiences ranged from children to elders. People were invited to put an array of questions to the bishop, and benefit from his “wisdom.”
Metro said:
Many studies have been carried out to find out why people are gay and no definitive answer has ever been given. However, we can find no evidence of any scientific studies being carried out to find out if pleasure from anal sex in expectant mothers is or ever has been a factor.

I wonder what the mothers of gay sons (and daughters?) might make of this extraordinary claim? We are used to offensive comments by religious morons, but when they start attacking our mums – whoa! – that is dangerous territory. I have visions of Bishop Neophytos being set upon by an army of outraged mothers hitting him over the head with their rolling-pins!

“Speaking at a primary school”? Are these people completely mad?
